Type and category of accommodation
• Hotels, of which there are over 100, are divided into 6 categories since January, 1st 2009: 5*, 4*,3*,2*,1* and 0* classified “de tourisme” (tourist class). There are also some unclassified hotels.
• Hotel-restaurants tend to be located in the city centre, in the Mériadeck district, or near the lake and the station.
• Residential hotels have facilities for longer stays. These kinds of accommodations are classified “de tourisme” (tourist class) or unclassified.
• Furnished tourist accommodation consists of apartments or town houses that can be rented for a period up to 9 months. These kinds of accommodations are classified “de tourisme” (tourist class) or unclassified.
• “Bed and breakfast” accommodation (“chambres d’hôtes”): in private homes, price includes breakfast. This kind of accommodation is not classified.
Classification and/or recommendations
“Tourist” accommodation is officially classified according to size and comfort of the premises but the ranking does not refer to interior decoration or condition of furnishings. Hotels, residential hotels and furnished tourist accommodation are all classified.
Recommendations are awarded by professional associations, based on an overall assessment. To help you choose, we have included recommendations from 4 such associations, namely Esprit de France, Executive Hôtels, Clévacances, and Fleurs de Soleil.
Rates
All prices displayed on the web site are for indication only. Some facilities offer special prices at weekends. Breakfast is an optional extra in hotels but in B&Bs the price includes breakfast. Unless stated otherwise, there is no charge for use of equipment provided. A tourist tax is payable in addition to the room rate, this being a fixed amount which varies according to the category of accommodation.. |
